2007 Program Statistics
Now in its second century of caring, the YWCA of
Central Alabama continues to serve women in adverse circumstances,
whether they live in poverty or in fear for their lives. The YW
is meeting critical needs by providing child care, domestic violence
services and affordable housing. It offers job and leadership training,
support groups, emergency shelter and advocacy. The agency allows
women to have hope and to make plans for a brighter fbture for
themselves and their children.
Here's a look at some of the ways the YWCA of Central
Alabama made a positive difference in 2007:
Domestic Violence Programs
Statistics
- Provided 6897 nights of shelter for 117 adults and 139 children
- Provided legal advocacy services for 3,908 victims of domestic abuse
- Provided legal assistance to 720 victims of domestic violence through the YWCA Family Law Center
- Provided victim support group services for 392 women and 88 children in Jefferson county
- Provided assistance to 2,694 people through the YW Crisis Line
- Reached 69 victims of domestic violence in collaboration with the Department of Human Resources through SAIL (Special Assessment Intervention Liaison)
- Maintained satellite offices in Blount and St. Clair counties
Child Care Programs Statistics
- Provided 4,479 days of care to 68 individual children in KIDS Korner childcare center
- Provided 11,073 days of care to 82 individual children in Calico Corner childcare center
- Provided academic programs and tutoring to 87 individual children in the After School Enrichment Program
Housing Programs Statistics
- Provided emergency housing for 22 families (79 individuals) through Interfaith Hospitality House for a total of 5,259 nights of shelter
- Provided permanent housing to eight individuals and one child with special needs in Jefferson and St. Clair counties
- Provided 12,981 nights of permanent housing to 54 individuals in 41 apartments
- Provided 6,425 nights of transitional housing to 41 women and 41 children (23 families) in 23 apartments
- Provided permanent housing to 23 individuals in 22 apartments designated for the elderly in Avondale and Rosedale
Women's Resource Center Program
Statistics
- 6th year of MOMENTUM, with 27 participants, 30 senior mentors, 21 advisory board members and 119 alumnae
My Sister's Closet Program
Statistics
- Provided professional clothing and accessories to 317 women from shelters
- Provided 90 prom dresses to economically disadvantage teenage girls from area high schools
