The YWCA Building in Birmingham, Alabama
Founded in 1903, the YWCA Central Alabama has been responding to the needs of women and their families for nearly a century. To better serve the needs of Birmingham's women and children, the YW recently completed a $10 million capital campaign and a major renovation of our home in downtown Birmingham. This historic art deco building has been home to the YW since 1948. Built in 1925, it was badly in need of repair, reconfiguration, and restoration. The renovation took almost two years, but the renovated building has allowed the YW to continue to expand its many programs.

The YW's programs and services focus on three major areas: child care, domestic violence services, and affordable housing. The YW also sponsors a Women's Resource Center, the Chapel Gallery for Performing and Visual Arts and many other special programs and events that enhance the well-being of families in Birmingham.
