This program gives children living in community shelters the extra attention and support they need during the school year. Volunteer tutors work with elementary and middle school children on homework, reading skills, classroom projects and special events.
Qualifications
Must enjoy working with children and be at least 15 years old or accompanied by an adult. Volunteers must complete the volunteer training program and have good interpersonal skills with children and adults. Experience working with school-age children preferred. Younger volunteers (ages 12-14) may participate on Fridays.
Time Commitment:
1 ½ hour mandatory training sessions held in January and September. The program is after school, Monday through Friday. Volunteers arrive at 3:45 p.m. and stay until 5:15 p.m. Ideally volunteers commit to come one day a week for either the Fall or Spring semester, or longer.
