Dear Friends,

As a community and as a state, we are still reeling from the destruction that came in the spring of this year.  As a generous community, we have stepped forward in amazing ways to help those survivors overcome their losses and rebuild their lives.

The YWCA, though not a first line responder, has helped in a variety of ways.  Our homeless shelter for families, Interfaith, took in a family from Pleasant Grove who came to us with literally the clothes on their backs – but with no shoes!  My Sister’s Closet has helped those who needed career clothes to be able to continue to work.  In partnership and collaboration with foundations and other community funders, we have helped to distribute over $100,000 to families whose homes were damaged or destroyed.

As a donor to the YWCA Central Alabama, you know that helping families weather the storms in life is what we do – all the time, all year long. People like:

• Tom and Sally who, with their children, came to stay with us at Interfaith in Woodlawn and when they were more economically stable, moved from the emergency housing in the shelter to transitional housing and then to independent living;
• Cheryl, an abused wife with her children who sought refuge from domestic violence in our new shelter in St. Clair County;
• Pixie and Erin, the children of homeless families who look to us each day to provide quality child care, nutritious meals and educational enrichment activities at no cost to their families as they struggle to put their lives back together.

We need your help to enable us to continue serving these “storm survivors” who turn to the YWCA to help them rebuild their lives.  They are counting on us.  May we count on you?
