The YWCA Chapel Gallery for Visual and Performing Arts was opened in 1999 after renovations to the original 1948 chapel. During the 1950’s and 1960’s, residents at the YW attended church services in the chapel on Sunday mornings. Today, the YW encourages its clients to mix with other downtown residents by attending services at the churches or synagogues of their choice.

The architecture of the Chapel Gallery is stunning. A dramatic arched ceiling, curved staircase with custom metal handrails, gleaming hardwood floors and beautiful chandeliers accent the space.

The chapel’s original ambo and raised stage were left in place at one end of the large room. A custom designed quilt piece resembling a stained glass window graces the stage area. The addition of custom lighting and sound system makes the Chapel Gallery a perfect space for visual and performing arts.

The gallery hosts the Annual Women’s Art Show, “Celebrations” each the winter. Throughout the year, the Chapel Gallery is used for art shows, children’s events, musical and arts performances, luncheons, dinners, and other special events.
