Women are Working
Together to End Domestic Violence
SOAR (Survivors Overcoming Abusive Relationships) is a volunteer
group of domestic violence survivors whose mission is to promote,
advocate and work for the elimination of domestic violence
and provide a voice to battered women everywhere. Sponsored
by the YWCA, SOAR provides a way for women to bring about real
change in the systems that allow domestic violence to exist.
This is primarily accomplished through participation in local
public education efforts, speaking engagements and working
with the media to promote the message that violence against
women is not acceptable.
Is
SOAR for you?
As an organization run by and for survivors of all forms of domestic
violence, SOAR members give courage, strength and respect to
each other as we try to further educate society about domestic
violence. By choosing to become a part of SOAR, you are choosing
to make a difference.
Join us and Make
A Difference to yourself and others
SOAR welcomes women from all walks of life who want to make a difference. To
be eligible for membership, you must be a survivor of domestic violence who has
reached a level of safety and healing and who has a desire to help end abuse
by becoming a spokesperson for domestic violence victims. SOAR will provide special
training to prepare you for your role as a spokesperson and advocate for battered
women. In addition to free training and regular meetings, you may also be asked
to participate in a support group.
