A shelter at a confidential location where women and children can find help without fear of being discovered by the abuser. The Center offers a variety of services, including individual counseling, a 24- hour crisis line, support groups, and special programs for children.
Domestic
Violence Crisis Line
Crisis line counselors provide safety planning, crisis intervention, and advocacy services by telephone for battered women. In 2006, staff and volunteer counselors assisted nearly 3,000 domestic violence victims on the crisis line.
Qualifications
Volunteers must be 19 or older and have strong communication and interpersonal skills. They must possess the capacity to respond with empathy, warmth, patience and genuine concern to battered women in crisis.
Training
After completion of classroom training, crisis line volunteers receive 10 hours of hands-on training. Training sessions are held throughout the year. Call 322-9922 to find out about upcoming trainings.
Time Commitment
Volunteers are asked to work eight hours per month for at least six months, primarily Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
