Domestic Violence Services Spotlight: Mattie Gaskin

October 14, 2013

We are continuing our recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month by highlighting domestic violence services (DVS) the YWCA Central Alabama provides as well as highlighting our DVS staff members who assist in making these vital services available to our community. This month we are sharing video spotlights which feature YWCA Central Alabama staff members and their experiences as DVS providers. Check out the video below to see Mattie Gaskin, Staff Attorney, share insight into being a lawyer that specializes in domestic violence cases. Also, in case you missed it, Click here to see DeShunn Wilkerson share some of her experiences as a Crisis Line Coordinator and Outreach Specialist.

Today marks the start of  the YWCA Week Without Violence, an initiative created by the YWCA USA nearly 20 years ago to mobilize people in communities across the United States to take action against all forms of violence. This year Week Without Violence runs from October 14th - 20th.

Lastly, a very special thanks for all the support with our collaboration with The Allstate Foundation for the Purple Purse Campaign. With your help, we have surpassed our goal by passing the purple purse over 1,000 times! This will result in The Allstate Foundation donating $10,000 toward our domestic violence services!
