Crisis Line Volunteers Needed

Crisis Line Counselors 

Crisis line counselors provide safety planning, crisis intervention and advocacy services by telephone for battered women. Crisis Line volunteers are crucial in linking victims of domestic violence to life-saving information about shelters and other community resources. They offer crisis intervention, assist callers with safety planning, provide support and make referrals to other community resources. 

Qualifications 

Volunteers must be 19 or older and have strong communication and interpersonal skills. They must possess the capacity to respond with empathy, warmth, patience and genuine concern to battered women in crisis.

Training

The YW will provide four hours of classroom training followed by four hours of hands-on training.  Training sessions are held throughout the year. 

Time Commitment 

Crisis line volunteers are needed Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.  Shifts are in 3-4 hour increments, once a week or once every other week. Scheduling is flexible, but we ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of six months.
