February 1, 2012
On Thursday, February 2nd, the YWCA Central Alabama will partner with hundreds of other Alabama nonprofits in the inaugural Alabama Gives Day, a statewide day of giving.
Alabama Gives Day is a 24 hour event that starts at midnight on February 2nd and concludes at 11:59 p.m. Through the combined marketing efforts of local media and participating nonprofits, Alabamians will be driven to a central donation website. The website allows donors to choose the nonprofit they wish to support and to make their gift. At the conclusion of the event, nonprofits will receive the donations and contact information for their donors so they can continue to cultivate their donors well after the event.
As a part of its Alabama Gives Day campaign, the YWCA will host an Open House on Thursday, February 2nd from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Guests are invited to come and see the participants in the YWCA child care program participate in dance class with teachers from the Children’s Dance Foundation from 10:15 a.m. – 11:50 a.m. as well as tour the facility and learn more about the services and programs that the YWCA provides. This event is free and open to the public and light refreshments will be served.
The goal of Alabama Gives Day is to raise millions of dollars in one day for the more than 850 participating nonprofits in our state, including the YWCA Central Alabama, which has an organizational goal of $5,000. It's one extraordinary day to support the organizations that make Alabama special.
Never before have nonprofits of all types and sizes had a collaborative effort to increase awareness of their missions and to engage first-time donors. Minnesota’s Give to the Max, in its first year, raised $14.8 million, Colorado Gives Day $8.4 million, Central Ohio’s Big Give $8.7 million and the list goes on. Our great state has proudly heralded the National Championship in college football for three years. Wouldn’t it be amazing if Alabama held the record for raising the most money in a Gives Day? It’s possible through your support.
For over a century, the YWCA Central Alabama has been responding to the needs of women and families. The YW’s programs and services serve women and families by providing: affordable child care for families; child care and after-school enrichment programs for homeless children; affordable housing; a broad array of domestic violence services; and social justice programs.
