Video Dance Project Delights YWCA Students

Eight-year-old Chloe laughed in delight as she watched the image she created on the screen. She moved her arm in a graceful arch and was rewarded with a larger-than-life mirror image of the movement. Crew Program Gives Woodlawn Teens Work Experience and More

The school day starts as early as always, but the parents of some Woodlawn teenagers have noticed that getting their kids up and out the door in the morning isn’t as difficult as it used to be.

They credit the YWCA Central Alabama’s CREW (Creating Responsible Educated Working teens) program, which allows youth in the Woodlawn community the opportunity to gain work experience during the summer and participate in personal and professional development opportunities.

YWCA Junior Board Makes Powerful Impact on the Community

Whether they were raising money to support the YWCA Central Alabama’s child development program for homeless children, convincing men to walk in red high heels to spread awareness about domestic violence or passing out prizes at the Fall Festival, members of the YW Junior Board made quite an impact during the 2014-15 term.

New KIDS Korner Classroom Brings Smiles to Lots of Faces

When TJ, his mom and grandmother came to the YWCA Central Alabama recently, they were hot, tired and frustrated. Several days into their search for childcare for the 2-year-old, they were very discouraged and the grandmother was almost in tears. “I didn’t know what to do,” she said. “They told me, ‘Go to the YWCA, they can help.’ ”

Reading Program Makes Learning Fun for YWCA Children

Eight-year-old Morgan read a book about space and got more and more excited with each page. She thinks Saturn might be her favorite planet because of its rings, and she believes she might want to be an astronaut one day. “It just seems like it would be a lot of fun,” she said.
