VP of Finance and Operations

The YWCA of Central Alabama is looking for a Vice President of Finance and Operations to serve as a hands-on financial leader with responsibility for broad oversight and protection of the assets and operations of the organization. Candidate collaborates with Senior Managers to develop and implement organizational structure to support the overall financial strategic plan that supports the mission. This forward-leaning individual also assures the financial viability of the organization through proactive analysis and sound administration of policies and procedures. The VP directs, plans, manages and develops organizational operations for facilities management to include all aspects of maintenance and operations relating to all YWCA properties, owned and leased land and facilities as well as the effective management and execution of all capital improvement, major renovations, repair projects and Safety/Security services.

Essential Functions:

Organizational Leadership

The VP of Finance and Operations is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating the efforts of staff to ensure that accounting functions are accomplished to facilitate the closing of the general ledger and production of accurate and timely financial records. The VP of Finance and Operations reviews and approves transactional accounting entries and supporting documentation to ensure relevance, accuracy and compliance with established standards including relevant nonprofit accounting regulations; assesses current accounting operations and offers recommendations for improvements in processes, organizational structure and/or controls, then implements approved recommendations.

Operational Leadership

The VP of Finance and Operations is responsible for the development of staff to meet current demands and prepare them for future challenges in an effort to improve department performance.  This will require effective planning, goal setting, and coaching of subordinates on an ongoing basis as well as teamwork and open communication. The VP of Finance and Operations promotes employee engagement, teamwork and accountability, and coach staff to interact with other departments. 

The VP of Finance and Operations believes in the organization’s mission and ensures that quality client service is top priority; sets the example and displays ultimate respect for clients, employees, and all others, embracing a commitment to a trauma-informed environment.

Strategic Plan Implementation

The VP of Finance and Operations will realize the true performance potential of the company and develop an unbiased, holistic view of the company’s value chain – from back-office operations to customer needs and pinpoint the places that need attention.  The VP of Finance and Operations should be able to help leadership convert these insights into specific action items and initiatives. 

The VP of Finance and Operations will evaluate trends and provide data, analysis and recommendations on strategic decisions. They will update job knowledge by remaining aware of new regulations; participating in educational opportunities; maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organizations.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Accounting, CPA, CMA or MBA
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an accounting role
  • Minimum of 3 years in a management role
  • Non-profit accounting and Blackbaud/Financial Edge experience preferred
