Summer is a time of rest and relaxation for many, but for the YWCA After-School Enrichment Program (ASEP), it’s busy season. When summer kicks off, ASEP begins its Summer Enrichment Program a nine week camp designed to fight “summer slide.”
Summer slide is the learning loss that many children experience in between school years—especially children from low-income families. Through a hands-on curriculum of reading, math, science and arts and several educational and recreational field trips, the Summer Enrichment program helps ensure that the participating children from local shelters can maintain equal footing with their peers. We spent a day with the Summer Enrichment program to see how fighting the summer slide looks. Check out the video below.
