YWCA Central Alabama extends our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ahmaud Arbery. Our hearts ache for his parents. No parent should ever have to bury their child.
While today’s guilty verdict brings accountability and limited closure to some, Ahmaud Arbery’s murder remains a painful and horrific reminder that systemic racism plagues our nation and cannot be ignored.
Make no mistake, this is not ok. None of us are free until all of us are free. And freedom includes being able to walk, run, and play without the fear of someone taking your life because they believe you do not belong there.
At YWCA Central Alabama, we demand a world of equity and human decency and commit ourselves to the work of being an anti-racist organization that actively strives to eliminate racism wherever it may be.
We will get up and continue to do the work until injustice is rooted out and until institutions are transformed.
At ywca.org/ywca-and-racial-justice, you will find resources to use as you join our fight against racism.
